Succeed at Summit!
Well it’s that time of year again! Thousands of marketers will descend upon Moscone Center in San Francisco (after a brief stop in Las Vegas in 2016) to discuss everyone’s favorite Marketing Automation tool… Marketo. Professionals from across the country and globe will listen to keynote speakers, attend sessions, get certified, and take time to network with other like-minded individuals.
But whether you’re a first timer or a veteran, the experience can be overwhelming—the crowds, the lines, the parties. While Summit is a great experience that offers so much, taking three days away from a job to focus on other matters is difficult for any professionalwhich adds pressure to make sure that Summit is time well spent. Well, don’t worry! We at Digital Pi have your back. Summit has continued to grow each year since its first back in 2009 and we have learned some things along the way. We wanted to share this knowledge so that you get the most out of your experience!
Digital Pi Tips for Summit
As Summit continues to grow, so do the lines for sessions. Great topics like Lead Scoring, Nurturing, and now ABM are sure to draw many interested parties across all experience levels. One way to be successful is to take time to familiarize yourself with the layout of Moscone prior to sessions starting so you know where to be when you need to be there.
Additionally, as Marketers, we like to flex those creative muscles, especially when creating session titles and descriptions. And while good intentioned, sometimes the subject matter can get lost in the shuffle. If a session topic is not what was expected, don’t be afraid to move on. Take the time to grab some water, answer some emails, or visit vendors in the expo hall (*cough*…*cough*…Digital Pi…*cough*). Time is precious, so make sure you’re using it wisely!
For most first timers, it’s easy to skip the keynote sessions when they see emails piling up, or are trying to plan their next 5 moves so that they can attend sessions, network, visit a vendor, and grab a quick lunch. But the keynotes have offered some of the best value in years past! From Arianna Huffington inspiring women in the workplace, to John Legend sharing his journey from the corporate world to international fame. Keynotes serve to inspire and re-invigorate and have done just that in years past, so don’t pass on the opportunities.
Marketo Certification is quickly becoming a pre-requisite for any professional looking to build their career in marketing automation. Since its inception, Marketo Certification continues to add credibility to our growing skillset and prove our rightful place at the revenue table. If you haven’t taken the time, take the time, and get certified at Summit.
Network, Network, Network
Marketo has one of the strongest communities of any SaaS company in the world! The technology creates a “band of brothers” mentality across its constituents and drives an insatiable need to learn and grow our capabilities within Marketo from others in our bunker. This is never more self-evident than at Summit, so don’t forget the business cards and find a new table for every meal.

Each day can feel like a marathon from the moment you wake up to the moment you hit the pillow. While Summit is a wonderful professional experience with much to gain from, you can feel like you have gone through the ringer. Take the time to relax and attend a party…or four. It adds to the enjoyment of Summit, provides the opportunity to catch your breath, and build relationships (see tip 4). Just make sure you’re ready to take on the next day!
